Today I lead a breakout session at Grand Valley State University‘s 2014 Hospitality Summit. The title of the presentation was “Stress Management for Hospitality Employees.”
As of now, research on stress in the hospitality industry remains an utterly unstudied topic. We really don’t have a very good grip on the type and size of hospitality employees’ stressors. The subject presents much potential for research to potentially affect many lives positively.
I introduced a couple of studies highlighting the need to teach stress management to hospitality employees. This was then followed by a brief introduction to two stress management techniques, a concentrative meditation and an expressive meditation. Attendees had a chance to practice both meditations during this highly interactive event.
The entire session was adapted from materials I first was exposed to at the Mind-Body Medicine Professional Training Program at the Center for Mind Body Medicine in Washington DC.
