Stress Management
If you are an avid Alternative Medicine Blog reader, by now you probably noticed one main theme. And this is the focus of the
alternative Medicine Blog on prevention and stress management. One major impact on disease and disease is stress. This fact was reaffirmed once more after reading Dr. Seyle's "The Stress of Life."
If one lets stress run amok, uncontrolled, one stands a good chance of having this cause a chain reaction, comparably to an avalanche of small, ignored issues wreaking havoc on the body, the immune system sacrificing homeostasis. What I shall present here then in my next few posts will be a recap of very effective techniques on stress management, courtesy of a class I took earlier this year. One person can impossibly apply all of the stress management techniques I will present, but I will point out that there are somme stress management techniques which should have priority over others, but ultimately, you, the reader must decide which ones are most suitable and adaptable to your situation.
Our topics will range from how to react to stress, body awareness (one must recognize the stressor in order to combat it), breathing, progressive relaxation, meditation, visualization, self-hypnosis, autogenics, combination techniques, recording your own relaxation tape, getting rid of irrational thoughts and ideas, worry control, coping skills training, goal setting time management, assertive training, job stress management, nutrition, and finally exercise.
As you can see there are a myriad ways of softening everyday stress or even eliminating distress altogether and focusing on eustress. Eustress (from the Greek eu= good as in euphoria) is the thing one should focus on. This is the stress we all need in order to survive. It is what gives us purpose, drive, a sense of accomplishment etc. Lets face it, we would not survive for very long without any stress at all, stress is a necessary survival mechanism, and by consciously being aware of this fact we can make stress work to our advantage and transform bad unwanted stress into eustress.
I am looking forward to be sharing these stress management techniques in upcoming posts with you.
