Why Guided Meditation? (Free for Breast Cancer Survivors)
Sometimes it is hard to find the time to meditate on your own without a teacher or guide. It certainly can be difficult to find the motivation to meditate on your own. ACEF’s 30 minute guided meditations are aimed to guide you step by step.
Take 30 minutes to explore guided meditation practice with a brief teaching and an opportunity to focus on relaxing the mind.
The Benefits of Guided Meditation
Thoughts, feelings, beliefs and attitudes can influence and affect every aspect of your biological functioning, and how you care for your body can change how you think and feel and what you believe.
Mind-body medicine focuses on the powerful ways in which you can take part in your health and healing. By learning to still your mind and let go of discursive thinking, you can open the door to a healthier, happier life.
Guided meditation provides you with many opportunities to care for yourself. There are techniques and practices, some ancient and some recent that you can use to have an impact on your overall well-being.
Your Brain on Meditation
For example, Tang et al. (2010) have shown that integrative body–mind training, increases anterior cingulate cortex activity and improves self-regulation. Tang et al. (2010) go on to say that deficits in activation of the anterior cingulate cortex have been associated with many disorders.
The ability to increase cingulate connectivity through meditation practice could offer a means for improving self-regulation. Greeson (2009) writes that greater mindfulness can reduce stress, stress-related medical symptoms, increase positive emotions and increase the quality of life.
Greeson (2009) goes on to say “…studies are beginning to show a relationship between (a) how much people practice meditation, (b) how much more mindful they become, and (c) the positive effects they experience in terms of mental and physical health” (p.10).
In this class, meditation is presented in a clear and easily accessible way. The meditations are guided. This allows beginner and experienced meditators to reap the benefits of meditation.
Werner will guide you through meditation exercises giving you a guided meditation experience, which will allow you to adopt mindfulness practice quickly in your life.
Discovering mindfulness through guided meditation will enable you to deal successfully with pain, chronic illness, stress, and anxiety. Over time, you may experience greater self-awareness as well as greater life satisfaction.
