There are many benefits to learn how to breath correctly. The most important one is also the most obvious one. If breathing is correct, lungs will be completely saturated with oxygen, leaving plenty to be carried via the blood to the most remote areas of your body. Below I will describe proper Diaphragmatic a.k.a. Abdominal Breathing.
1. Lie on the floor on a blanket or yoga mat in the “dead body” pose. Legs should be straight and lightly apart forming a V extending from your body with toes pointing slightly outward. The arms should be on your sides, straight, but not touching your body, palms up and eyes closed.
2. Now draw the focus on your breathing, placing a hand on the spot which seems to rise and fall the most with each respiration.
3. Place a book on your abdomen and follow your breathing, taking note of the movement of your abdomen with each respiration.
4. Breathe through your nose.
5. If it is hard for you to breathe in the abdomen, push your hand down on the abdomen as you exhale, and letting your abdomen do the work as you inhale deeply.
6. Focus on your chest. Is it moving in concert with your abdomen, or is it resisting? Focus for a minute or two to let your chest mimic the movement of your abdomen.
