Homeopathic Acute Prescribing III, Arsenicum
Flu as an Example
ARSENICUM
In homeopathy the Arsenicum patient is very chilly, exhausted, and restless. The fatigue and the restlessness are a tormenting combination: the person desperately needs rest, but when they try to lie still, they find they cannot. When the homeopathic patient gets up to move around, they are very quickly exhausted again. Their body is very cold and has to be wrapped up warmly, but their face may feel hot at the same time. If they have to uncover their body, they may have terrible chills.
If the Arsenicum person has pain, it has a burning quality, despite their feeling so cold. As a further irony, the burning pains feel better from warmth such as wrapping or hot packs.
The homeopathic patient feels very thirsty, but they may prefer to drink in small sips instead of a large quantity at a time. Despite being so chilly, they prefer their water cold, even though cold water may upset their stomach.
Emotionally the person may feel somewhat dependent, wanting company with them. At the same time, they are easily bothered and irritable by too much noise or conversation. They may feel afraid about the state of their health.
